Residential & Commercial

Full Service Interior Design

We design homes and businesses that are easier to live in.

Whole-home renovations, custom builds, acreage and farm homes, and commercial interiors in Saskatoon since 2011.

What we believe

Clear thinking over trends

A room built around what is current will look dated on the same schedule as the trend that made it. We would rather work out what your house actually wants to be.

Long-term performance over quick fixes -

The cheapest version of a renovation is the one you only do once. Most of what we protect is the decision you will build right the first time.

Working together over one-off transactions -

We are in this with you for months or even years, alongside builders and trades. That is a relationship, and we treat it as one.

Spaces that support real life and real work -

Where people actually move, where the light lands, and what happens on the worst morning of the week, not the photographed one.

A reflection of the people

We design for you. Creating for the individuals who inhabit the space is our true passion.

How to work with us

Two ways in, depending on how much you want to carry

Whether it's a house or a business, the question is the same: do you want us to run it, or do you want the drawings to run it yourself?

Full Service

We run the whole thing. Design, decorating, specification, ordering, trades, site visits, and the day everything lands. You make the decisions, and we carry everything in between.

At home, that's a whole-home renovation or a new build handled end to end, so you're not project managing it around your job.

In business, that's a full fit-out or a tenant improvement delivered to a date, because every week the doors stay shut is a week you're paying rent on an empty space.

For permit, tender and build.

Signature

The complete documented package. Construction drawings, specifications and finish schedules, ready to price, permit and build from.

At home, that's everything your builder needs to quote accurately and build without phoning you with questions.

In business, that's a package you can put out to tender and compare properly, with the design decisions already made rather than left to the lowest bidder.

Kitchens, ensuites, closets and mudrooms are designed as part of the whole house rather than one room at a time, which is usually what separates a renovation that feels finished from one that feels assembled. The same is true of a clinic or an office: the reception desk is not a separate problem from the corridor behind it.

If your project needs a different shape, we'll work that out in the first conversation.

Who we work with

Three routes out, one per audience. This is what lets a clinic owner and a homeowner and a builder each find their own page in one click.

Homeowners

Whole-home renovations, new builds, and acreage and farm homes across Saskatoon, Warman, Martensville and out into the country.

Residential

Businesses

Clinics, dental and veterinary practices, offices, legal and professional services, retail and restaurants. Tenant improvements through to full fit-outs.

Commercial

Builders and Partners

Contractors, realtors, developers and practice consultants whose clients have just asked the design question. Here is what we protect on your project.

How it starts

Nothing to commit to for the first two steps

  1. Introductory Call

Tell us what you are thinking about, ask us anything you like, and we will walk you through how a project like yours usually works.

  2. Meet and Greet

Come and say hello, get to know us, see the studio and our work, and meet some of the team, all before you commit to anything.

  3. Discovery Session

When you are ready to go further, this is when we work through scope, timeline and budget properly, so you know what your project involves and roughly what it will cost.

Most people arrive somewhere between excited, unsure, and a little overwhelmed, and that is a completely normal place to be standing. You do not need to have it figured out before you call.

The studio and the people in it

One studio, from the first conversation to the last delivery

Metric Design has been at 213 Wall Street since 2011, with twenty-six years of design experience behind the work. We design homes and commercial interiors across Saskatoon and out to the acreages and farms.

What we do for people, more than anything, is hold the whole project together. We are the one point of contact from start to finish, and we bring in the builders, architects, engineers, trades and suppliers a project needs, matched to the scope in front of us rather than to whoever happens to be available. We work alongside those professionals rather than in place of them, and everyone we bring to a project is someone we would have in our own home. Then we coordinate them, so that you are not the one chasing anybody.

Design planning is where we start, and we plan from the finished space backwards. The early decisions are the ones everything else gets built on. We work out what the property actually wants to be, inside and out: the layouts, how the space will function day to day, the materials and finishes. Then we weigh that against what is feasible, what you intended, and what the investment needs to return. Everything after that follows from it, including who we bring in to execute, the sequence the work happens in, and where the money goes.

Carrying that alignment the whole way through is what gives you a result you will still love in twenty years. That is the difference between a project that was designed and managed for you, and one that was handed off in pieces.

Our team and the partner network around it mean your project is never one person's spare capacity. You will meet the people who will actually work on it, and you will meet them before you commit to anything.
